MELATONIN HELPS IN CASES OF FIBROMYALGIA

September 9, 2015 (Brazil)

A study conducted in Brazil and published in the journal BMC Pharmacology and Toxicology, reveals that melatonin is able to reduce pain in patients with fibromyalgia, a rheumatic disease that affects the muscles, causing a persistent painful tension.
The study included 63 women who were divided into three groups and took drugs every night for six weeks. One group received 10 mg of melatonin, the second group received 25 mg of amitriptyline (an antidepressant that is often prescribed for patients with fibromyalgia), and the third group received a combination of 25 mg of amitriptyline and 10 mg of melatonin . The results of the study showed that patients who took melatonin have reported lower pain levels (Source: National Pain Report).
