WITHOUT ELECTRIC LIGHT AT HOME, YOU SLEEP BETTER

September 25, 2015 (São Paulo, Brazil)

A new study by researchers from Brazil, the United Kingdom and Sweden of around 700 rubber tappers, found differences in the daily cycle and the production of melatonin in people who have electricity at home - and are exposed to artificial light night - and those who do not have access to electricity.
The researchers found that electricity in the to homes has an impact on sleep duration of workers. Who has electric light sleep on average 30 minutes less per day than those who did not have it, which is equivalent to a loss of 2.5 hours of sleep a week. The results showed a significant delay in the time of release of melatonin in workers with electricity than the other group. "Modern society promotes a lifestyle that goes against the alignment of circadian biological clock, increasing exposure to artificial light and the use of electronic equipment. The study has contributed to enhancing the understanding of the desired balance between the 'exposure to artificial and natural light and its influence on people's health, "said Claudia Roberta de Castro Moreno, of the Faculdade de Saúde Pública (FSP) of the University of São Paulo (Source: RedeNotìcia).
